Switch and socket height regulations

Modified on Mon, 22 Jan at 11:03 AM

Faceplate heights in your property vary depending on the age of the property and regulations.

In a new build it is required that faceplates are to be installed between 450mm and 1200mm from the finish floor. So this could mean that your light switch is placed at a maximum height of 1200mm to the top, then your sockets are installed at the lowest height of 450mm to the bottom.

This is to allow the fixtures to be controlled by someone who is wheelchair bound.

Unlike new build installations, when it comes to old properties, there are no set heights as the property.
